How to sound like Jack White?
We've chosen the tone of Seven Nation Army to show you how to get clause to the legendary tone of Jack White!
Seven Nation Army might be the last great rock riff, the one that took the airwaves by storm and turned everybody into air guitar players overnight. The White Stripes had already released three albums prior to Elephant, but that first single released in 2003 is what made them one of the biggest rock bands of that era.
Jack White’s gear is highly unusual: for Seven Nation Army, he used a cheap Kay archtop from the fifties tuned to open A with a single neck pickup and plugged it into another cheap piece of gear (at least cheap before people wanted to sound like White !), a Silvertone 1485 amp.

That very crude-sounding amp is pushed into aggressive overdrive with the help of an MXR Micro Amp booster. For the verses, White uses a Whammy one octave down to emulate a bass part, while he uses the 2 octaves up setting for the solo. On the solo, he also kicks on an Electro Harmonix Big Muff to really get down and dirty.

While the Micro Amp, Whammy and Big Muff are pretty easy to track down brand-new, only one pedal really does the Silvertone amp thing really well, and it’s the Jackson Audio Silvertone 1484 Twin Twelve, an actual replica of the amp’s circuit in pedal form. Finally, a little room ambiance from the Boss RV-6 will replicate the studio’s sound.
